Botox Injection

Botox is one of the many trade names for the neurotoxic protein called botulinum toxin that is produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. The protein is used in cosmetic medicine to treat moderate to severe brow furrow (glabellar lines), uncontrolled blinking, lazy eye, wrinkles, and facial creases. These procedures use a small amount of diluted botulinum toxin that enables controlled weakening of muscles.

How Botox Works

Botox works by relaxing the muscles on the face that cause wrinkles. When we express ourselves, such AS TALKING AND SMILING WE CONSTANTLY USE OUR FACIAL MUSCLES WHICH CAUSES LINES AND WRINKLES ON THE FACE. Over the years these lines and wrinkles can become deeper and more prominent. This is especially the case in people who are very expressive when they talk, who may frown at times of stress or squint to avoid the sun. When Botox is injected into the face, the skin overlying the muscle appears smoother giving a more youthful appearance. The commonest areas where wrinkles are formed are in the frown area, on the forehead and the crow’s feet.

Prevent Wrinkles

Botox is not a permanent treatment and its effects wear off with time. The treatment can be repeated every 3 months although sometimes the effects can last longer in those people who have regular treatment. This is because with regular Botox treatments you can break the unconscious habit of forming excessive expressions such as frowning. Botox treatments are also used as a preventative treatment to prevent the formation of future wrinkles.

Frown Lines

Reducing the appearance of frown lines is one of the most common reasons people choose to have Botox. Frown lines can be seen as vertical lines in between the eyebrows and are common in people who frown a lot or have been overexposed to the sun. To treat these lines, usually five small injections are given in between the brow – one in the middle of the brow and two on either side of the of each brow muscle.

Brow Lift with Botox

Botox can also be used to achieve an eyebrow raise or “Chemical Brow Lift”. Carefully placed injections around the brow can raise the eyebrows by about 3 millimeters. This can open up the eyes and in women give a more feminine and youthful appearance.

Forehead Wrinkles

Forehead wrinkles appear as horizontal lines on the forehead which are more prominent when we raise our eyebrows. These can be treated with between five and ten small injections across the forehead. To successfully treat the lower part of the forehead, frown area treatment may also be recommended.

Crow’s Feet

Crow’s feet are situated in the outer corner of the eyes. They appear more prominent when smiling or laughing. They occur as the skin becomes less elastic with age combined with excessive sun exposure. Three small injections at either side of the eyes are usually very effective in treating crow’s feet wrinkles.

Botox Injections

The whole treatment takes around 5 to 10 minutes to complete and after the treatment you can drive or head back to work immediately, no recovery period is needed. It is an extremely safe procedure with very few risks involved. It can take between 4 to 7 days for the treatment to work and the effects last for an average of 3 months.
